5 Things You Didn’t Know About Anti-Wrinkle Injections

So we have all heard about Anti-wrinkle injections but is the hype duly justified?

In a nutshell yes and the reason why: it’s powers are simple. When a small amount of product is injected into a muscle it blocks nerve signals that instruct your muscles to contract. In doing so the product temporarily weakens or paralyses the muscles and smoothes or eliminates wrinkles in the skin for a period of a few months. Anti-wrinkle injections owe much of their contemporary fame to the fact that when injected into the skin in measured doses it helps in removing wrinkles.

But did you know it is widely used for other non-cosmetic medical purposes?

This product has been used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) for quite some time. Generally injected into the armpits, hands and feet, this product is by far the most effective treatment for excessive sweating as opposed to medication or topical creams. It is successful in 99 per cent of cases and the effects last longer when injected into this area than for any other use. Just as the toxin inhibits the nerves that cause the muscles to contract, it also inhibits some of the nerves in the hands, feet or armpits that stimulate the sweat glands.

Anti wrinkle injections are used very successfully for treating severe headaches known as migraines and can also help with tension headaches. After going through repeated clinical studies, this product has officially earned FDA approval for the treatment of chronic migraines. It is believed to eliminate migraines by reducing muscle tension and thus creating less strain on the nervous system.

Tox injections are also used to treat muscle spasms by temporarily paralysing spastic muscles and eliminating involuntary muscle contractions. Muscle spasms are a common symptom of conditions like multiple sclerosis and cerebral palsy and can also develop following a stroke, brain or spinal cord injury. Left untreated, muscle spasms can become very painful, and eventually create joint problems and muscle shortening yet fortunately it is treated successfully with this product.

Anti wrinkle injections are currently changing the lives of those with bladder disorders including incontinence. They work for wrinkles because it paralyzes the facial muscles. When it’s used for incontinence, it works by stopping muscle spasms of the bladder, giving the patient more control. The first injection lasts for about six months then the patient needs another injection to maintain bladder control. With each injection, the effects remain longer and retreatment is needed less frequently.
