PREGNANCY – HOLLYWOOD STYLE

Life is full of little miracles but without a doubt the biggest miracle of all is pregnancy and the eventual gift of a new baby. If you are blessed enough to currently be carrying a child – congratulations! But this period isn’t all about rocking a gorgeous baby glow – unfortunately pregnancy comes with its own set of challenges.

Apart from the obvious changes to your body, your hormones and consequently your moods, your skin, hair and nails all undergo their own transformation. But there’s a way to combat some of these inevitable issues and even beat them to ensure you are positively glowing and radiant like all the other pregnant Hollywood stars.

1. ISSUE: UGLY, GROSS BLOTCHY SKIN

Due to hormonal changes you will find your facial skin changes greatly in oil production during pregnancy. Women with oily skin often get dryer while those with dry skin are prone to getting greasy or breakouts. This is nothing to fear and totally normal.

If you aren’t having regular microdermabrasions it’s time to book them in now. Begin to splurge yourself with regular facials and masks. Moisturise frequently. Even spray tans are acceptable if you wish to highlight your pregnancy glow. Also use the right makeup to cover any blotchy skin.
During pregnancy you must not however have any injectables such as fillers or anti-wrinkle treatments. No laser or light treatment, retinol or vitamin A either.

2. ISSUE: TURNING INTO A BIG, FAT BLIMP

I know it’s highly tempting to give into every crazy pregnancy craving (fries anyone?) but now is the time to make sure you are eating healthy, natural foods. Every Hollywood star knows this one very important secret and its time you did too – you are not eating for two! You don’t have to pile on a massive amount of weight to successfully feed your unborn child the appropriate foods.

Eat well, eat small amounts regularly and do not overeat. Pop a multi-vitamin every day and feed yourself all the fuel it really needs. Finally KEEP MOVING. This will not only positively impact your skin; it will keep your body looking fitter and healthier throughout the duration of the nine months.

3. ISSUE: ARGHH – WHAT ARE THOSE DISGUSTING MARKS???

Stretchmarks are lots of pregnant women’s worst nightmare. They develop when the skin is stretched rapidly either on your pregnant belly or growing breasts and thighs. The best way to prevent stretch marks is to start using vitamin E oil – this will help reduce the itchiness and dry skin while increasing collagen and elastin production in the skin. A lot of it is genetics so check in with your mother to see if she experienced her batch of stretchmarks; otherwise there’s always the option of medical needling once you pop out the baby – this treatment truly works miracles.

4. ISSUE: ORANGE PEEL EXPLOSION

Cellulite is a term used to describe the uneven fat deposits under the skin which cause it to have a dimpled “orange peel” or “cottage cheese” appearance. Cellulite is a common and harmless condition that affects about 90% of plus thirty year old women but for some reason it is more common due to pregnancy in women over the age of 30 due to weight gain, water retention, lack of exercise, hormonal changes and poor circulation. To remedy this avoid coffee, tea and soft drinks. Drink plenty of water and once again KEEP MOVING
